Bust that stress and ward of the distress because nobody wants to spend their lives worrying about the mundane quandaries each one faces everyday.The other day, few of my friends were discussing what exactly stress is for each of us and in general. We came up with a lot of sources by which its caused and suddenly one of the girls goes “hair fall!”. After a few seconds we realize she is absolutely right. Now, hair fall is one such condition which can be categorized into both- cause and effect of stress. On a serious note, everybody is suffering from stress. A child of 9 years too is found to be worried all the time along with a 90-year old. Everyone else between that age group is bound to be stressed about different things at the same time. The youth of today, especially have so much on their plates, considering they are the future of India, that they can’t help but worry about each action they take. The college life, the starting of a new job, is all supposed to be fun. Right? But, No. Turns out these are the start to a life which is going to be full of anxiety, tension, and hardship. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. We all know those same old ways as, “take a break”, “exercise” or “meditate” work well but are we willing to do them, considering all we want from life is excitement?
Here are few fun ways which might change the monotonous handling of stress!
Break the monotony
In very broad terms, take a break from the stressor. Break that monotonous routine and do something you love and get refreshed to continue. Listen to music! Or dance like no one’s watching. Or even better, dance and sing to your heart’s content. Trying to distract yourself with creative methods is always a great idea. Albeit, it’s not always easy or possible, even, to take a break, but even those in 15 minutes in which you shut out the stressor, you’ll feel much less overwhelmed and will be able to do your work with renewed energy and a new perspective.

Pets are great for your health in many ways. Petting an animal for just a few minutes can reduce stress, to say nothing of the wonderful effects that unconditional love from pets has on your health. Try to walk a dog if you can – they’ve been bred to respond to human emotion, plus the mere act of walking can be stress-relieving too. Don’t have access to a furry friend? Watching a video of a cute animal can also help. Visiting a pet café too is the trend nowadays to spend those couple of blissful hours with a darling dog or a cherished cat!

Laugh Out Loud!! Our brains are interconnected with our emotions and facial expressions. When people are stressed, they often hold a lot of the stress in their face. So, laughs or smiles can help relieve some of that tension and improve the situation. Of course, its also important that you stay with people who make you laugh and smile. It might get hard in office spaces but some or the other person will befriend you to share those laughs. After all, laughter is the best medicine.

Call your best friend for a chat. Call your mom for that catching up. Call anyone you think will make you feel a bit relaxed. You could always talk to the same person who’s the cause of all that tension and give them a piece of your mind. Let those feelings and frustration out and clear your head and heart of them.

For the young minds and hearts with free spirits we carry, meditation will probably never appeal to us. The closest, the youth of today, can come to sitting still and concentrating for a period of time is to binge watch a series of shows, back to back. Or even a movie marathon. This, even though is not productive, still works to de-stress. And what other better companion to Netflix and Amazon Prime than food! Eating will always be one of the easiest ways to release stress. Although, overeating is harmful for health so check that intake of junk!

It’s no surprise that being outdoors does wonders for our health. Isn’t it strange that we evolved to lead outdoor lives but spend almost all our time indoors? So next time you’re stressed, head outside. Let the sun shower you with vitamin D to reduce your blood pressure. Sink your feet into the grass since reconnecting with the earth’s electromagnetic field will help relax you. If you have the time, try gardening! Since being around plants and flowers helps reduce stress, it’s a sure shot way. Or you could just lay on the ground and play the cloud game to help distract you from your earthly troubles.

Show Some Love and KINDNESS
It’s quite true that giving to others activates your brain’s relaxation responses, which is why being kind is great when you’re stressed. Don’t just donate money though! You want to feel as engaged as possible, that’s why try volunteering, or simply perform a random act of kindness for either a stranger or someone you don’t know well.

For those readers out there, there can be no better way to do away with stress than this. Trying to transport yourself to another world with one of these fantasy novels and imagining perfect scenarios in the head is a delight for any and every avid reader and is sure to make the stressor non-existent! At least for a while.

Of course, there will be those professional photographers who click perfect pictures with sky, water, and other props. But that’s no reason to get in touch with that inner photographer within you. Clicking pictures always changes perceptions and makes us see things from a different angle altogether. And that one amazing click which you’ll definitely get will surely be Instagram worthy!

This can range from any board game to a cards game or even any one of those available online. Brain games are always a good choice when you want to get your mind off things for a while. Arcade games or action ones help in taking that annoyance out by lot of shooting and strategic plans to win the game. A simple Sudoku can do wonders too! It will make your brain sharper as well. Take care though, you might lose some friends over Uno and Monopoly 😛
Uno- “I ruined like 11 friendships today!”
Scrabble- “Oh I ruined 12 and 2 marriages too!”
Monopoly- “Oh you guys are cute. Talk to me when you reach thousands.”
