A true leader and inspiration is someone who has learned to win, you need to leave your comfort zone behind yourself.

An Indian author, political analyst and business consultant who worked in India, Switzerland, Israel, Hungary who recently shot to fame with his book, “The monk who became a Chief Minister” – Biography of current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath – Shantanu Gupta shares his story. It was during his engineering, he first stepped out of his comfort zone. He had taken up Mechanical Engineering during his under-graduation. The pay gap between that of a Mechanical Engineering graduate and a computer science engineering graduate made him decide to take up a software job. He touched a computer for the first time in his third year of Engineering. He prepared for C-DAC, cracked the test and joined in an institute in Hyderabad from where he got placed in a Mechanical software company which works on CADCAM.

COMFORT ZONE

After a few years, our guest told us, how he realized that it is interacting with people that fascinate him rather than sitting in his chair and coding for a new project. Born and brought up in a UP, having studied in Hindi medium, English never came to him naturally. Some tips given by his fellows were reading newspapers, watching movies. He stepped out of his comfort zone yet again, started watching movies, reading articles, Wikipedia etc to learn English. He later did his Masters from XLRI and secured a job in Europe. He worked in several countries including Cyprus, Israel, Hungary, Switzerland. He met a girl on one of his train journey whom he fell in love with. It was difficult for him to convince his parents of an inter-caste marriage and Hindi-non-Hindi union. He once again stepped out of his comfort zone, convinced them and married the girl of his choice.

COMFORT ZONE

Earning a good salary, with a caring wife, he was working in Zurich, 7-8 years after he started his professional journey. While working in this organization, he was part of the CSR initiatives and the volunteer wings. It was when he realized that being part of the social initiatives makes him more content than a fancy dollar salary. Our protagonist then joined the university of Sussex, one of the top institutes in the world and spent time with some of the greatest minds. Later he stepped towards development sector from the corporate sector and tried to understand how rural areas work. He joined UNICEF and was posted in Lalitpur where he worked with Pradhan and other social organizations. Back to life without any comforts, he once again stepped out of his comfort zone to walk towards his passion, leaving the handsome salary. He understood the rural dynamics and governance.

COMFORT ZONE

Our inspiration feels that the media presents what they want to which may not necessarily be the truth. Shantanu came back to Delhi, where he worked with a think tank understanding the ideas of the free market. He was part of the NAMO campaign – 2014. Impressed with Baba Ramdev’s work on yoga, he helped in a digital campaign. It was then channeled started calling him for opinion polls. It is then, he realized that he should write more to be thought, leader. His first book was in Hindi published by Bloomsbury. It was then, Yogi became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His publisher and the decider that they would publish a book on him before someone else does. Published in August, it was a huge hit and by January 2018, he was invited for many international literary festivals and the book was among the bestselling works on Amazon. Our leader is now signed by Rupa for his next book which is going to be a non-fiction work.
